Total Warrior Sunday 7 August 2016 at Shap

Dr Leach would like to say a great big THANK YOU to all patients and staff for sponsoring him. Dr Leach completed the gruelling course unscathed but rather tired and muddy. We raised £100 for the Alzheimer Society of which £56.72 was from patients and staff.   Please see justgiving.com/jack_leach4. Well done Dr Leach.

Cupcake Day 6 June 2016

Another great big THANK YOU to all patients and staff for helping to make Cupcake Day a scrumptious success. Every crumb you made and every penny you raised £136.53 for the Alzheimer Society really does count.

A New Beginning

The takeover is now complete. Thank you for your patience throughout the transition. We wish a warm welcome to our new GP, Dr Rafferty, who will be working alongside Dr Bakht and Dr Leach. After feedback from our patients we will be looking at the appointment system within the next couple of weeks. We will keep you updated on further changes at the practice.

Sponsored Bungee Jump

On November 8th Dr Leach and Mitch (reception) will be doing a sponsored bungee jump to raise funds for another defibrillator (AED) to be based at Egerton and Dunscar Health Centre. As you may remember Dr Leach completed the Manchester 10k and successfully raised enough funds for a defibrillator for Edgworth Medical Centre. Staff are now fully trained and the defibrillator is now located in the reception area. Please get behind this worthy cause!

Additional Services at Edgworth Medical Centre

Kurt Lievesley, the private physiotherapist, has now settled in to life at the medical centre, he runs a private clinic every Monday evening. We feel this is an excellent alternative for those not wishing to travel to receive physiotherapy treatment. The GP will be able to refer you directly to him. To Book appointments directly please call 01617249855 or for more information please email: info@edgworthphysio.org.uk. Or like the facebook page for regular updates on the service: Edgworth Physiotherapy.

Due to the high demand in the use of the Out of Hours Service, the previous number of 0161 763 8940 will still be in use rather than 111. The new system has been unable to cope with the high volume of calls, therefore until further notice the original number is still to be used.

The Role of a Health Trainer

NHS Health Trainers have been specifically trained to motivate, support and advise people on how to get healthy, stay healthy and get the most out of life. They encourage people to change lifestyle behaviours which are known to cause ill health.

Our Health Trainers are based within GP Surgeries across the Borough. They specifically work with patients who are 45 years and over, who do not have any existing cardiovascular conditions such diabetes and heart disease.

Although you may be well at the moment, there are likely to be aspects of your lifestyle that could prevent you from staying well. If you smoke, do little or no physical activity, drink more than the recommended limits of alcohol or eat unhealthily then you could be putting yourself at risk of becoming ill in the future.

Small changes can make a big difference to people’s health and that is what Health Trainers are about. They will offer motivation and encouragement, and will help people to find and access the support and services they need.

Bolton’s Health Trainers are passionate about making a difference to people’s health and wellbeing.
